Burrard Bridge debate begins anew

Judging by the steady crowds that turned up Saturday at the Roundhouse Community Centre for a preview of the city’s options to make the Burrard Bridge safe for cyclists, the latest round of this debate will be as intense as the previous editions. The city’s engineering department has developed three options — a single bike lane northbound, a single bike line southbound or a lane closure in each direction so two lanes are lost to car traffic. More than 200 walked through during the three-hour open house, many of them cyclists, and many sat down to have their comments recorded. Councillor George Chow, who is leading the work on the council side, was on hand to answer questions, as were members of engineering staff. Andrea Reimer and I were also on hand for most of the afternoon. Check out the Burrard Bridge link on the city’s Have Your Say page for information. Look for the report to come to council in March.
