Metro Mayors seek control of Translink’s base budget and vehicle levy or regional carbon tax to move transit forward
The Translink Mayor’s Council has urged Transportation Minister Blair Lekstrom to consider and approve a short but pointed list of reforms, including implementation of a vehicle levy or a regional carbon tax, to drive forward new transit investment.
The Mayors are also seeking a key governance change: right of approval on Translink’s base budget, not just supplemental spending plans. The details are in this letter from the Mayors to Lekstrom, released by council chair Richard Walton, Mayor of North Vancouver, this morning.
