Zoning change triggers massive increase in industrial areas open for artists’ use
Long-awaited changes in Vancouver’s zoning and development bylaws approved by council tonight trigger a massive increase in industrial areas available for use as artist studios.
Just the latest in a series of measures to support arts and culture, the bylaw ended prohitions on artist use in many parts of the city.
As a result, said Councillor Heather Deal, the building space opened up for artist studios increase to 28 million square feet from 2 million. Councillor Elizabeth Ball hailed the changes as “groundbreaking.”
