Mobile business licences: some said they wouldn’t happen, but lo! here they come!

In January, when I asked city staff to push forward with a mobile business licence, long sought by business groups to help firms that work across municipal lines, former councillor Peter Ladner scoffed.

“Check back in another seven years,” he sneered, recalling that he had raised the issue himself that long ago.

But what’s this? Why it’s a memo from Brenda Prosken, the city’s general manager for community services, circulated to council last week. Work on the mobile business licence is well-advanced, she says, with a report to council expected in June and implementation soon after. How time flies.
