Celebration of Light generated $40m overall, $15.8m from out-of-town visitors
The Honda Celebration of Light, which the City of Vancouver supports as a civic event with more than $700,000 in services, attracted more than 1 million attendants this year, leveraging $40 million in economic activity.
According to an economic analysis by organizers circulated to council last month, police estimated onsite attendance over three days at about 1.2 million, with 268,000 at English Bay on Aug. 3 alone. About 43 percent were from “out of town BC” (meaning not from Vancouver or North Vancouver), 11 percent were from outside the country.
About three out of four attendees were from outside the City of Vancouver and took a hotel room for the night.
And it was a beautiful show, each night.
