Hollywood owner, city, coalition working with possible purchaser on new plan for theatre
City staff, Hollywood Theatre owner Dino Bonnis, the Save the Hollywood Theatre Coalition and an unidentified prospective purchaser are working together to create a new strategy to save the theatre as a cultural venue, according to a memo circulated today to city council.
Brian Jackson, general manager of planning and development services, says “efforts are being focussed on the owner’s proposal to develop his site adjacent to the Hollywood by accommodating some of the development potential from the Hollywood Theatre site.
“I continue to be cautiously optimistic that a proposal to retain the Hollywood Theatre as a cultural venue can be found.”
That process could take several weeks and would likely necessitate a rezoning or heritage revitalization meeting with a public chearing.
In the meantime, Jackson says, “the property owner has no intention of taking any action in regard to this site other than to continue working . . . on a plan for preserving the site.”
